Matthew Lublin, M.D.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, Dr. Lubin returned home to Los Angeles to attend medical school at UCLA.  He learned the craft of general surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York city.  Upon completion of his residency in 2004, Dr. Lublin was awarded the Mount Sinai Hospital David A. Dreilling Award for Academic Achievement.  Following residency, Dr. Lublin completed an advanced laparoscopic surgery (surgery through tiny incisions) and weight loss surgery fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  He also completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute for the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Lublin has always wanted to bring a high level of surgical care to the community of his roots.  Dr. Lublin practices at St. John's Health Center, Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, and the Surgery Center of Santa Monica.

With an emphasis on minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques, Dr. Lubin specializes in abdominal surgery and wight loss surgery.  He performs surgery on disease processes related to the esophagus (for heartburn, reflux, or hiatal hernia), stomach, spleen, gallbladder, adrenal glands, small intestine, colon, thyroid, parathyroid, breast, and hernias. 

Dr. Lublin completed a laparoscopic bariatric (weight loss) fellows course at the Ethicon Surgical Institute and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery's Essentials Course in bariatric surgery.  He has also completed the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding course given by Inamed and Ethicon and has received certification to perform the Lap-Band and Realize Band, respectively.

Dr. Lublin is a Board Certified general surgeon.  He is a Member of the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.  He is the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Lublin has published articles on bariatric and laparoscopic surgery in many surgical journals including the Annals of Surgery and American Surgeon.  He has also presented at many prominent national meeting.

He is married and has two sons.
